Church and Clubhouse Restoration
Preservation work on the Church and Clubhouse under the supervision of Ray Clark and his business Recreate,Inc. is progressing! The Clubhouse has new grading but the bulk of the work on the building will start during the summer of 2008. The Church property is graded to get the water away. This one project had the highest priority of any part of the preservation process and we are thrilled to have it done. Also, the furnace has been replace with a gas furnace which is located in the balcony leaving only the necessary pipes in the front hall. The principal purpose for replacing the furnace was to remove the chimney and the cricket which were causing the most damage to the building from the outside. Its removal exposed some serious water damage to the structure which was repaired. Wayne, the site supervisor for Recreate, and his crew removed and replaced the outside clapboards that were behind the chimney in such a way, one would never know they had been taken off. The exposed foundation behind the chimney has been repaired. Best of all, Wayne found the original shutter which had been removed when the chimney was installed and put that back in its place! The steeple has been stabilized and so have the rather scary stairs going up there. This winter Recreate will start re-glazing and painting all of the windows beginning with those in the front of the church. The church is in desperate need of money to help with this cost and donations will be acknowledged with a small plaque.
